COMPOST PER CUBIC YARD FULL $43.00 / HALF $25

Our compost is a nutrient-rich soil amendment made from locally collected leaves and clean yard waste, carefully decomposed and screened to ¾″ or less. It’s completely natural, contains no sewage sludge or municipal waste, and is safe to use for all garden and landscape applications.

By improving soil structure, boosting water retention, and feeding beneficial microbes, our compost helps Connecticut gardeners grow healthier plants and bigger harvests—everything from lush green lawns to flowering garden beds and even prize-winning vegetables and pumpkins.

Compost is one of the most versatile products we offer. It’s ideal for:

  • Vegetable gardens – enrich planting beds with organic matter for stronger yields

  • Raised beds – blend compost into soil mixes for balanced fertility

  • Lawns – topdress thin turf to improve thickness and color

  • Flower beds – enhance soil for brighter, longer-lasting blooms

  • Tree and shrub planting – amend backfill soil to encourage rooting and establishment

Thinking of starting or expanding a vegetable garden this year? Compost is the foundation for success. Learn more about how compost supports Connecticut gardening in our full guide: Connecticut Vegetable Gardening Guide.

SCREENED FILL $20.00 PER CUBIC YARD $10.00 FOR HALF

Our Screened Fill is a standard subsoil material produced by processing Clean Fill through our screening equipment. The result is a fine, workable dirt containing small stones no larger than ⅝″.

Screened Fill is ideal for:

  • Raising grades and filling in low areas

  • Backfilling and base material before topsoil is added

  • Projects requiring easier handling – no large stones, so it’s simple to move with a shovel or wheelbarrow

Keep in mind: Screened Fill is subsoil, not a growing medium. If you plan to grow grass or plants in the area, be sure to finish with a surface layer of 3″ of Screened Topsoil to provide the nutrients and structure needed for healthy growth.

GARDEN MIX PER CUBIC YARD FULL $46.00 / HALF $30

Our Garden Mix is a premium 50/50 blend of screened topsoil and organic compost, with an organic 9-0-5 slow release fertilizer blended in. TOPDRESS MIX PER CUBIC YARD FULL $66.00 / HALF $35

Give your lawn the professional treatment with our Topdress Mix, a carefully blended soil mix designed for lawn repair, turf maintenance, and soil improvement. Made from 4 parts nutrient-rich topsoil, 3 parts coarse sand, and 1 part peat moss, this mix delivers the ideal combination of fertility, aeration, and moisture balance.

The topsoil provides essential organic matter and nutrients to support root development. Sand enhances drainage and prevents soil compaction, ensuring healthy airflow to the roots. Peat moss helps regulate soil moisture, keeping grass hydrated without the risk of overwatering.

Whether you’re topdressing an existing lawn, filling in uneven patches, or preparing the soil for overseeding, our Topdress Mix ensures your grass thrives in a healthier, more resilient growing environment.

Key Features

  • Premium Lawn Soil Blend – 4 parts screened topsoil, 3 parts coarse sand, and 1 part peat moss for the perfect balance of nutrients, drainage, and moisture retention.

  • Improves Turf Health – Ideal for topdressing existing lawns, promoting denser grass growth and a greener appearance.

  • Levels Uneven Lawns – Fills in low spots and corrects surface irregularities for a smooth, even finish.

  • Moisture Control – Peat moss helps retain water in dry conditions while sand prevents waterlogging.

  • Versatile Use – Perfect for lawn renovation, overseeding, soil amendment, and turf maintenance.

Clean Fill – Bulk Subsoil for Large Projects $15yd

Clean Fill is an unscreened subsoil commonly accumulated from foundation digging on construction sites. It often contains a mix of soil and rocks, some of which may be quite large.

Clean Fill is best used for:

  • Filling in deep areas (over 1 ft) where large volumes of material are needed

  • Raising grades or leveling ground before adding topsoil

  • Base material under roads, pads, or other heavy-duty projects

Important notes:

  • Not for growing – Clean Fill contains little to no organic matter and won’t support grass or plant growth on its own. Always finish with a layer of Screened Topsoil (3″ or more) if planting or seeding.

  • Requires equipment – Because of the rocks, Clean Fill is difficult to move by hand. We recommend using machinery for spreading and grading.

CT’s Leading Soil & Compost Facility

At Grillo Services, we’re proud to operate one of Connecticut’s most established and respected organic recycling and composting facilities. Our main yard at 1183 Oronoque Road in Milford, CT spans more than 20 acres, making it one of the largest soil and composting operations in the state. Every cubic yard of compost, topsoil, and garden mix we sell begins its life here, where thousands of yards of organic material are carefully processed into the high-quality products our customers rely on.

The heart of the operation is our composting program. Each year, we recycle massive volumes of leaves, brush, and clean yard waste from homeowners, landscapers, and municipalities throughout the region. Rather than being discarded, these materials are transformed on-site through a carefully managed aerobic composting process. Piles are turned, monitored, and cured until they break down into a stable, nutrient-rich compost. The finished product is then screened to ¾″ or smaller, producing a dark, earthy amendment that’s perfect for lawns, vegetable gardens, flower beds, and tree and shrub plantings.

This closed-loop system of recycling and soil production allows us to make a real impact—keeping organic matter out of landfills while returning it to the soil as a valuable resource. Customers tell us time and again that our compost and blends have given their gardens a visible boost, with some even using Grillo compost to grow competition-winning vegetables and giant pumpkins.

Beyond compost, our Milford facility produces signature soil blends such as screened topsoil, garden mix, and specialty mixes, all made in-house with strict quality control. Our screening equipment ensures consistent, easy-to-spread material that contractors and homeowners alike can depend on.
