Not all yards are perfect and in order to beautify them we often need to get creative. The problem with steep grades is that they are tough to manage. Grow grass on them and you can’t safely mow it. Mulch it and your money is washed away with every decent rain. Before you give up and let the area fill up with weeds take a look at decorative gravels.
Whitestone 3/4"
Decorative gravels come in many sizes, colors, and textures. Their mass allows them to hold their ground and they are much less likely to be washed away.
Gold Beach 3/4"
Also unlike mulch gravel has staying power. It does not decompose and often can go years without needing any care. When the time does come to spruce it up all it takes is adding a small amount of stone to the areas that need it.
River Jack 3" to 5"
Larger stones like our 3-5″ River Jacks can be used if the slope is very steep and you feel that the smaller gravels might wash down with heavy rains.
River Rounds 3/4"
If you would like the look of multiple sizes of gravels you can always have us mix the materials you like. Or you can order a larger size like the 3-5″ River Jack and fill in the smaller gravel such as the 3/4″ River Rounds.
Red Stone 3/4"
Dan Perkins (Dan Dan the Chevy Man) came in once and had us mix our 3/4″ Red Stone with our 3/4″ Gold Beach. We mixed them half and half and he used them for his driveway. Yes that mix conjures a hideous image to most of us but it really didn’t look that bad.
Whatever type of decorative gravel you decide on I’m sure it will look better than if you do nothing. You may actually keep the erosion at bay. I bet these people wish I had posted this sooner.
