Choosing mulch has never been easier with the high definition HDR images we have taken of all our products.  But choosing a mulch should still be done with hesitance. Once you have a pile of mulch sitting in your driveway there is no going back ( without paying for it). The first thing to do is describe your wants in a mulch. Do you like dark mulch such as our Hemlock Bark Mulch, or do you prefer something lighter in color like our Gold Cedar Bark Mulch. These are questions you have to ask yourself to really determine which mulch is the best fit for you.

Besides looks alone some people like their mulch to have a certain scent, or offer other benefits. Our Red & Gold Cedar Bark Mulches offer both of these benefits. They are the most bug resistant mulches you can buy, with the aroma of cedar. For those of you not familiar with this think back to opening a cedar chest, the smell that arises is that of cedar. Cedar trees naturally developed this scent which humans love and insects despise, a great combination.

I am not saying you will have problems with bugs if you choose another mulch. The only mulches that increase the risk of insects colonizing are mulches that are not finely ground, mulches that are made with large chunks of wood. This describes none of our mulches for that reason, as well as the aesthetic value that a uniform finely ground mulch provides.

Pure Cedar Bark Mulch

Dark Mulch

If a dark mulch is ideal for your home you will have to choose between Pine, Hemlock, Colored Brown, & Colored Black Mulch. Black mulch is the darkest of the four and is midnight black. This mulch does a great job of creating contrast around the exterior of your home. Hemlock and Pine are very similar with Hemlock being a shade darker, and staying darker for a longer period of time. Bark Mulches are more expensive than colored mulches because bark is a small percentage of the mass of the tree, making it less available. Colored Mulches are made from ground wood, a more readily available material.

Red Mulch

If Red Mulch is what you think will look best we have two types; Red Cedar Bark Mulch & Red Wood Mulch. Red Cedar Bark Mulch is almost double the price of our Red Wood Mulch because it is shipped from Canada, and we all know that is not cheap (especially with today’s fuel prices!). I recommend buying the Red Wood Mulch to most people simply because it is much more affordable $26 per yard compared to $49 per yard. The Red Cedar Bark Mulch is nice, but if you are ordering a large amount I don’t think it is worth an extra $23 per yard.

Cheap Mulch

Sometimes you have a large area of your yard to mulch and you really don’t need a high quality mulch to go there. In this case our Eco Mulch is a good candidate. It is cheap ($18 per yard), and looks decent. Many gardeners use this mulch to insulate their garden over winter, it also works well for that.

Many of our customers make their decision by simply looking at the picture on this website. The rest make the drive to our business to view the product in person to make their final decision. Either of these options are fine, we are always willing to answer questions on the phone as well. Grillo Services is located in Milford, Ct and directions can be found by clicking on the “Hours & Directions” tab at the top right corner of the screen.
